.

.

Delta Aerial Survey, Inc., to obtain other necessary topographic data
including extended mapping to include the floodplain digitizing, of
154 cross sections, original photography, mylar maps sheets, and
prints. The map data ultimately will be turned over to the Corps of
Engineers for use in the engineering studies.

The engineering studies will include research of past historical
flooding; an hydrological analysis to determine the 10-, 50-, 100-
and 500-year frequency peak flood discharges; and an hydraulic analysis
to determine flood flow velocities, elevations, and to delineate the
flooded areas on the maps.

The hydrologic analysis will take into account the effect of
paonia Reservoir located on Muddy Creek near the confluence with the
North Fork.

The results of the hydraulic analysis including maps, stream
profiles, cross sections, and a table of flood elevations by stream
station are designed to be a useful tool for land use administration
on the local level.

The CWCB is serving as project coordinator for the study and
will review the work, including maps and engineering studies, to see
that it is being conducted by technically acceptable methods and that
the results are compatable with other studies in the region.

pro;ect Costs

By coordinating the project with the Corps of Engineers, the
costs for detailed engineering studies will be borne by the federal
government resulting in a considerable cost savings to Delta County.
The costs for report writing and publishing of a final report will
be borne by the CWCB.

That portion of the costs for acquisition of the topographic
data in Delta County is $4,888.60 which represents a significant
savings since most of the work was already completed for the Highway
Department. This cost is being split 50:50 by Delta County and the
CWCB.

Current Status

By letter dated March 1, 1977, the Board of County Commissioners
of Delta County expressed their desire to participate in a Floodplain
Study of the North Fork Gunnison River area and committed up to
$2,500 of local 1041 funds towards the project.

On March 30, 1977, the Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District,
was advised by this Board of various requests for floodplain studies
in Colorado in their district, including the North Fork study reaches.
Research of flood history and the hydrologic analysis was initiated
shortly thereafter and should now be close to completion.

-2-
