The discharges from
the SCS methods were somewhat lower than the USGS methods and
were discounted because of the possible lack of accuracy in
determining land use and soil groups in the basin. These
parameters are important for determining runoff depths needed in
the two SCS methods.

The peak discharges determined for the 10- and 100-year floods
were plotted on log-probability paper for each of the methods used
.(Fig. 1). The 50-year discharge for each method was taken from
a straight line drawn between the 10- and 100-year floods, and
the line was extrapolated to include the SOO-year discharge. The
flood peaks found for Kiowa Creek using Technical Manual No. 1
are given in Table 2.

Table 2
Kiowa Creek Flood Peaks
Location . 2 QIOcfs QSOcfs QIOOcfs QSOOcfS
Area M~.
Interstate 76,
Downstream limit
of study 709.2 14,237 36,000 49,346 96,000

A summary of discharges found using all four methods is found
in Table 3 of the Appendix.

Prepared by

O<OVLnaJ d?
