<br />The jUdicious choice of the grid element size can minimize the <br />topographic limitations. In its pre,sent form the FLO-2D model does <br />not have the ability to simulate shock waves or hydraulic jumps and <br />tends to smooth these out in creat,ing a flow profile. <br /> <br />The primary assumptions related to t:he definition of the flow <br />processes being simulated are: <br /> <br />* The flow is gradually varie',d based on the time step size; <br /> <br />* The vertical pressure dis1:ribution is assumed to be <br />hydrostatic; <br /> <br />* The resistance for unsteady flow is accurately described by <br />a steady flow resistance equation; <br /> <br />* The topographic slope angle Q is small enough to assume <br />that sin Q = slope; and <br /> <br />* The cross-sectional shape and hydraulic roughness of the <br />channel are sUfficiently uniform so that computed flow <br />hydraulics between cross sec1:ions are reasonably accurate. <br /> <br />23 <br />
