Submittal of such a letter to the CWCB completes the local government's role in the floodplain study designation process. As I mentioned to you on the telephone last week. designation of floodplain studies by the CWCB is a State statutory requirement for the use of those studies by local governments for land-use regulatory purposes. It also gives the local government some assurance that another level of government has reviewed the study and found it technically acceptable. The designation process generally is as follows. 1. The local government submits the study to the CWCB for review. 2. The CWCB staff reviews the study and either finds it acceptable or recommends modifications. 3. By letter the local government formally reguests eweB designation of the study (as modified. if necessary). 4. The CWCB designates the study by resolution at one of its meetings. I trust this letter will allow you to explain the CWCB designation process to your planning commission and council.
