Authorization

.

section 37-60-106(1), Colorado Revised Statutes 1973,
requires the Colorado Water Conservation Board to assist in the
prevention of floods and flood damages therefrom.

The information in this report was developed at the
request of Dorothy M. Johnson, Administrative Assistant and Land
Use Administrator for Gunnison County, Colorado. By letter of
July 15, 1977, the county requested floodplain information for
those reaches of the North Fork Gunnison River, Anthracite Creek,
and Coal Creek that lie in Gunnison County.

Floodplain information on the main stem of the North
Fork Gunnison River will be ultimately developed by the U. S. Army
Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, with detailed maps to be
provided by the county. Floodplain information on Anthracite and
Coal Creeks will be developed on a case-by-case basis by the
Colorado Water Conservation Board staff as time and other resources
permit. Whereas a considerable extent of the reaches of these
tributaries are controlled by the U. S. Bureau of Land Management
or the U. S. Forest Service, primary focus will be on the poten-
tially developable, privately owned land adjacent to the stream.

.

"

.
.,:~~,;,."
