fLOOD iNSDRANCE STUDY i.O INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose of Study Th1S Flood Insurance Study investigates the existence and severity of flood hazards in the unincorporated areas of Jefferson County, Colorado, and aids in the administration of the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. This study has developed flood risk data for var10US areas of the community that will be used to establish actuanal flood insurance rates and assist the community in its efforts to promote sound flood plain management:. Minimum flood plain management: requirements for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) are set forth in the Code of Federal Regu1at1ons at 44 CFR 60.3. In some states or communities, flood plain management criter1a or regulat.ions may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them. 1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments The sources of authority Nat10nal Flood Insurance Protection Act of 1973. for this Flood Insurance Study are the Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster This study was completed in August 1983 by Gingery Associates, Inc., for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) , under Contract No. EMW-C-0692. Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for many of the streams were completed as parts of previous flood plain studies and were expanded by Gingery Associates, Inc. 1.3 Coordination Streams requiring detailed and approximate study were identified at a meeting attended by representatives of the study contractor, FEMA, Jefferson County, the Urban Drainage and Flood Control Dis- trict (UDFCD), and the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) on July 29, 1981. Assistance in obtaining data was provided by the UDFCD and Jefferson County.
