The records for the gages near Colorado Springs and at

Security were too short, while the Fountain gage data did not represent

the flood potential of the stream. The frequency curve at Pueblo as

shown in Figure 2 was determined by log-Pearson Type III distribution

fit of the records from 19,41 to 1965 and 1935.

The standard project floods (SPF) at Manitou Springs, Colorado

Springs, El Paso-Pueblo County line and Pueblo were developed through use

of the June 1921 storm. Drainage areas above 9,000 feet in elevation

were not included in the SPF computations because they would make in-

significant contribution from storms of standard project. The plot of

unit discharge versus drainage area is shown in Figure 3. This curve

was used to compute SPF discharges for Fountain Creek at locations

between ~~nitou Springs and Colorado Springs.

Z.19,000 ,.2:3'" res
':)21<.
approximately

The SPF discharge of 219,000

equivalent to the magnitude of t e

Based on this, frequency curves

ueblo gage is

r flood as seen from Figure 2.
locations were developed by

assigning a recurrence interval of 350 years to each standard project

flood and constructing curves parallel to the frequency curve at Pueblo

gage (Figures 5, 6 and 7).

For Sutherland creek,~Leigh Whitehead and Associates, Consulting

Engineers, completed a floodplain study in 1975. Three different peak

discharges for the 100-year flood were presented in their report. The

NOf' 0\\
O~~/r"Nl/1e .

I -

---
