<br />Southward in the Denver metro area, the l\WS reported rainfall of 1-1.5 inches betwecn <br />9:30 and II :00 p.m, At least 20,000 homes were without power. Traffic on Intcrstate <br />25 was reduced to one lane near Mile High Stadium, One couple rescued their son from <br />their car just before it floated away, Santa Fe Drive was flooded with 2-3 feet of water <br />and stranded motorists stood atop their cars, The South Platte River overflowed and <br />covered the bikepath. <br /> <br />A motorist gets <br />atop his stalled <br />car on south- <br />bound Inter- <br />state 25 and <br />West Alameda <br />Avenue. Traffic <br />on 1-25 was <br />backed up for <br />miles Wednes- <br />day night as <br />vehicles stalled <br />by high water <br />made the high- <br />way an obsta- <br />cle course. This was the same area that flooded three years ago on August 11-12, An <br />estimated 3-4 inches of rain fell in 45 minutes in the watershed just north of Canon City, <br />A ten-mile stretch of County Road 28 received flood damage. As drainages enter city <br />from the watershed to the north, they have been obliterated by farming practices and land <br />leveling for subdivisions.
