This is the final report of a major drainageway planning study for Massey Draw,

the North Tributary of Massey Draw, SJCD (South) - Basin 6200 and two of its

tributaries. The basins are shown on Sheet 1 of the Drawings. The study was

authorized by an agreement between the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District

(UDFCD), Jefferson County, Arapahoe County, and Leonard Rice Consulting Water

Engineers, Inc. (LRCWE) dated March 16, 1977. Mapping of the drainageways was

accomplished under separate contract between the UDFCD and Delta Aerial Surveys.

The lower pDrtion of the SJCD (South) Basin including its North Tributary was

included in a previous master plan (1)* prepared by CH2M-Hill, Inc. in July 1976.

The present study supersedes the CH2M-Hill, Inc. study for the lower reaches

of SJCD (South) - Basin 6200. Other reports completed under the present pro-

ject includ~ th~ Phase A Major Drainageway Planning Report (2) published in 11arch

1978, and the Flood Hazard Area Delineation Report (3) published in 11ay 1978.

Purpose and Scope

The Phase A report defined major drainage considerations for each basin, identi-

fied existing and potential flood hazard problems, and developed and evaluated

flood contrDl alternatives and recommended one plan. The Flood Pazard

Area Delineation Report defined the 100 year flood plains and floodways which

together with adequate regulation of an effective flood plain regulation, will

prevent unwise development in the flood plains.

Following public hearings and approval by the UDFCD and Jefferson and Arapahoe

Counties, this Phase B report was authorized. The recommended plan of the Phase

A report was approved essentially as presented. In the Phase B study, prelimin-

ary design of the recommended plan Was accomplished. Master planning drawings

and cost estimates are included with this report, and copies of all backup data

are on file with the UDFCD.
