<br />DATA RESOURCE <br />AGENCY <br />CONTENT <br /> <br />FORMAT <br /> <br />REFERENCE <br /> <br />CONTACT <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT <br /> <br />NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM MASTER FILE <br /> <br />Federal Insurance Administration (FIA) <br /> <br />Community data file from 1968 to present on communities <br />participating in the National Flood Insurance Program. <br />Includes population of hazard areas, number of structures <br />in hazard areas, number of insurance policies in force, <br />and amount of coverage. Population and structure data <br />are obtained from the communities. Insurance policy <br />information is obtained from FIA's insurance contractor, <br /> <br />Maps can also be obtained for most of the 20,072 com- <br />munities with identified flood-prone areas. About 3,000 <br />of these maps include 100-year flood elevations and insur- <br />ance rate zones. Maps are developed by consulting firms <br />and Federal agencies under contract to FlA. <br /> <br />Computerized and graphical. Tape copies and lists of <br />identified communities are available. Data can be broken <br />down by community, and are available to anyone requesting <br />it. Insurance data are updated daily and weekly. Popu- <br />lation and structures in hazard areas are updated annually. <br />Maps are updated irregularly, as conditions require, For <br />small data requests, there is usually no charge. Large <br />requests are charged at a rate of $80/hr. of computer time <br />plus labor. Maps are free of charge. <br /> <br />A Data Element Dictionary will be published during 1979 <br />explaining the Management Information System acronyms and <br />data element contents.
