<br />, <br /> <br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in the Town of Superior, <br />Boulder County, Colorado, and to aid in the administration of the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protec- <br />tion Act of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to <br />convert Superior to the regular program of flood insurance by the <br />Federal Insurance Administration. Further use of the information <br />will be made by local and regional planners in their efforts to <br />promote sound land use and flood plain development. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />A meeting was held on April 21, 1976, and attended by a representa- <br />tive of the Federal Insurance Administration; the Mayor of superior; <br />and representatives of the Boulder County Planning and Public Works <br />Department, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, and Howard, <br />Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff. The purpose was to discuss areas to <br />be studied and methods to be used. On February 18, 1977, representa- <br />tives of the Federal Insurance Administration and Howard, Needles, <br />Tammen & Bergendoff met in Superior to review the study limits. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The U.S. Soil Conservation Service, the Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board, the Boulder County Courthouse, the U.S. Geological Survey, <br />and the State Historical Society were contacted for available data. <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br />t <br />i <br /> <br />The results of this study were reviewed at a final community coordina- <br />tion m~eting held on July 18, 1978. Attending the meeting were repre- <br />sentatives of the Federal Insurance Administration, the study contractor, <br />Boulder County Planning and Public Works Department, the Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board, and the town. This study incorporates all <br />appropriate comments, and all problems have been resolved. <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br />, ' <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff, for the Federal Insurance <br />Administration, under Contract No. H-40l6. This work, which was <br />completed in October 1977, covered all significant flooding sources <br />affecting the Town of Superior. <br />
