Henz and
Vincent R. Scheetz of Fort Collins Weather Service and Geophysical
Research and Development Corporation for the AMS award for
Outstanding Service by a Broadcast Meteorologist.

Their frequent and timely warnings of the flash flood potential in
the Big Thompson Canyon of Colorado on July 31 and August lover
Radio Station KCOL in Fort Collins reached many of the residents
and campers of the canyon in time to avoid the flood. Without their
timely broadcasts the death toll would surely been much greater.
Their broadcasts were the only forecast information reaching the
Estes Park-Big Thompson Canyon, Loveland area prior to the flood.

Their forecast for August 2 and 3 were also significant in that
they forecast no major flooding even though heavy rains continued.

We would be happy to assist the award committee, John Henz and
Vince Scheetz in providing any required documentation of their
activities.

Sincerely,

MICHAEL A.
