Depart- <br />ment of Transportation's funds from the <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />Three shallow aquifers underlie the <br />Vermillion River Basin. They provide <br />drinking water and are considered "sensitive." <br />Sensitive aquifers are those likely to be affected <br />by human activities because they lie near the <br />ground surface and beause of the land use <br />practices that are taking place above them. <br />Pesticides and nitrates have been detected in <br />one aquifer. <br /> <br />POTENTIAL SOLUTION 4-A <br />Protl'd existing wells from agricultural du:mialls, <br />animal wastes, and septic sysrerm.
