INTRODUCTIQi~

Presented herein are the results of the hydrologic analysis of the White

River, Sulphur Creek, and Sanderson Heights at Meeker, Colorado. The hydrologic

analysis was performed to determine the peak flows for the 10 year, 50 year,

100 year and 500 year recurrent floods for the study reaches and is part of the

Flood Plain Information Report for the White River and Sulphur Creek which is being

prepared for the Rio Blanco County Planning Commission, the Town of Meeker and

the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The general vicinity of the White River

Watershed included in this study is shown on Figure 1,
II. STUDY AREA

The area of hydrologic analysis included in this report consists of the White

River watershed above a point two miles west of Meeker where Colorado-Ute's 138 Kv

electrical transmission line crosses the White River. Further analysis has been made

on the Sulphur Creek drainage basin and on the Sanderson Heights basin, both of

which are sub-basins within the White River Watershed and drain through Meeker.
.<\0
The White River watershed above Meeker extends approximatelyM miles east

of town and averages 24 miles in width. It rises from an elevation of 6100 feet at the
(i PO.V.
west boundary of the study area to elevation~;,.,i 12,000 feet with the mean eleva-

tion being about 8800 feet. The White River basin borders the Yampa River basin

on the north and the Colorado River basin on the south. Above Buford, the river

has two major stems, the North Fork and South Fork, both of which originate in the

White River Plateau, which is a high mesa with a mean elevation of 10,000 feet.

.
