3-29. The State of Colorado has implemented a comprehensive flood warning ...
system for Fountain Creek in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey and
the National Weather Service. Thev have installed a satellite Data Collection
Platform (DCP) and transmitter at the Pinon Plaza Bridge gauge. This s:~stem
is capable of automatic dialing and triggering alarms. An alarm will sound at
a given stage and then report stages at a given time interval. This system
has been operational since February 1, 1985.

3-30. Once the satellite flood warning system becomes functional, the p,eop Ie
of Pueblo will have adequate data and information so that effective decisions
can be made to minimize damage and danger from flooding. The 1.5-hour warning
time provided by the Pinon Plaza Bridge alarm for the 100,000 cfs peak is
considered adequate to evacuate all people and some portable property. This
system is judged to be highly reliable, and because it contains its own power
source, it will be invulnerable to power failures.

.

.

1II-8
