<br />Scottsdale is a very special community. In my mind, it's the best
<br />community there is and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. One
<br />of the reasons that Scottsdale is such a special place is our citizens -
<br />caring, involved people who take an active part in the development
<br />of our city.
<br />The Indian Bend Wash was not always as beautiful and inviting as
<br />we know it today. When the forces of nature threatened to rip our
<br />community in two, and destroyed property time and again, the
<br />people of Scottsdale banded together. The Indian Bend Wash
<br />greenbelt flood-control project is a shining example of a solution
<br />that was born out of citizen concern and involvement.
<br />We in Scottsdale are extremely proud of the Indian Bend Wash
<br />success story. The project has received worldwide recognition and
<br />now serves as a model for developing solutions to flood-control
<br />problems worldwide. As a community we are now rewarded by the
<br />many parks, golf courses and other recreation facilities available to
<br />us. As people, we learned a most valuable lesson: by working
<br />together, seemingly insurmountable problems can be turned into
<br />opportunities.
<br />On behalf of the Scottsdale City Council, it is an honor to present
<br />this recorded history in recognition of the completion of such an
<br />outstanding project. We applaud the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
<br />for its achievement, and the many citizens who gave their time and
<br />energy so that we might all be safe and enjoy our community to the
<br />fullest.
