E. Flood Hazard Area Delineation

I

The floodway is the main channel of a stream, plus those adjacent floodplain

areas that must be kept free of obstructions in order that the tOO-year flood be

carried without significantly increasing the energy grade line. The floodway

determination for that part of the study area within Arapahoe County was based

upon UD&FCD criteria of a maximum increase in the energy grade line of 6-inches.

The limits of the floodway for the City of Littleton was determined to be equal

to the limits of the floodplain because of the extensive floodplain development

and the resulting flooding problems. It was felt that any development in the

defined floodplain would be adversely effected and, more important, it has the

potential for adversely affecting others within or adjacent to the floodplain.
