DETERMINATION REPORT FOR
BIG THOMPSON RIVER--LOVELAND, COLORADO

This report documents field investigations on the Big Thompson River

at Loveland, Colorado. The purpose of these investigations was to evaluate

the channel roughness characteristics of the flood-plain area and to

document existing channel conditions.

Field investigations were conducted on April 2, 1981, by personnel

from Resource Consultants, Inc. The investigations consisted of photo

documentation of bridges, diversions, and channel and overbank areas. In

addition, estimates of Manning's roughness coefficients were made for the

channel and overbank areas based on criteria presented in Table 1.

Fig. 1 shows the locations where photos were taken. Table 2 summar-

izes the photos at each location and shows the Manning's n values for each

point. Left and right overbank areas are all referenced looking upstream

for consistency. Figures 2 through 37 are photos of the areas indicated on

Fig. 1.
