The At soils <br />consist of clay. is fine grained and low plastic, and is black to olive-brown in color fiom <br />the surface to 2.5 feet deep. The penneability for the clay soils in this group lIIIges from <br />0.18 to 0.23 inches per hour. The soil below the At soil consists of sand and gravel, is <br />coarse gained and nonplastic. and is yellowish-brown in color. The penneability for this <br />soil was over 6.3 inches per hour. The water table depth for the At soil ranges from 2 to 5 <br />feet. The Hidewood silty clay loam (Hd) was associated with soils located from 500 to <br />800 feet southwest of the Main Ditch in the general area of Fourth Street. The Hd soil <br />consists of clay. is fine grained and low plastic, and is black to grayish-brown ill color. <br />The penneability for this soil ranges from 0.63 to 6.3 inches per hour and the wter table <br />was assumed to be less than 2 feet deep. The Brookings silty clay loam (Da) occupies the <br />area from 100 to over a 1.000 feet to the south and west of the Main Ditch soulb ofN"mth <br />Street. The Ba soil consists of clay. is fine grained and low plastic, and is bId to olive- <br />brown in color. The permeability of the soil ranges from 0.63 to 6.0 inches perhour. The <br />water table depth was assumed to be less than 2 feet. The Trosky silty clay loam (fs) <br />was associated with soils located about 100 to 600 feet east of the Main Ditch. The Ts <br />soil consists of clay. is fine grained and low plastic. and is black to olive in color. The <br />penneability of the soil ranges from 0.63 to 6.3 inches per hour in the top 3 feet and over <br />6.3 inches per hour below 3 feet. The soils below these clays consist of sands lIId gravels <br />similar to the soils below the At soils. The water table depth for these soils was assumed <br />to be less than 2 feet. <br /> <br />In conclusion, the majority of the soils identified within 200 feet of the Main <br />Ditch consists of clay and exhibits a penneability which ranges from 0.63 to 2.0 inches <br />per hour. These clays are fine grained and low plastic, and are black to dark gray in <br />color. In general. it should be possible to construct a levee using the onsite maIICriaIs. <br /> <br />11 <br />
