<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in the City of Idaho Springs, <br />Clear Creek County, Colorado, and to aid in the administration of <br />the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster <br />Protection Act of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to <br />convert Idaho Springs to the regular program of flood insurance by <br />the Federal Insurance Administration. Further use of the information <br />will be made by local and regional planners in their efforts to <br />promote sound land use and flood plain development. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />The streams. studied in this report were agreed to by representatives <br />of the City of Idaho Springs, the Federal Insurance Administration, <br />and Black & Veatch, Consulting Engineers. A meeting was held on <br />May 26, 1976, to acquaint the Mayor and town officials with the <br />Flood Insurance report. <br /> <br />A library search was made for historical information on past flooding <br />and other background data. <br /> <br />On April 14, 1976, review drafts of this report were submitted to <br />the Federal Insurance Administration Consultation Coordination <br />Officer and to the Mayor of Idaho Springs for review. <br /> <br />On December 12, 1977, this Flood Insurance study was reviewed at a <br />final coordination meeting attended by personnel of the Federal <br />Insurance Administration and Black & Veatch, Consulting Engineers, <br />as well as members of the community, including the Mayor. No <br />problems were raised at this meeting. <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by Black & veatch, Consulting Engineers, for the Federal Insurance <br />Administration, under Contract No. H-3834. This work, which was <br />completed in March 1978, covered all significant flooding sources <br />affecting the the City of Idaho Springs. <br />
