PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to present peak flood discharges for use in the

computation of flooding information for selected streams in The Town of Frisco

and Summit County study area. Peak flood discharge computations were derived

from:

1. Revi ew of the procedures and methodol ogi es used to compute fl ood

discharges in previous studies and verification of their validity;

2. Documentation of available peak flow rates from previous studies and

resolution of differences;

3. Adoption of values for the study reaches of this contract; and

4. Utilization of all available data, charts, etc. to compute. the

remaining peak flow rates needed for these studies where they were

not available.

II. MAJOR BASIN DESCRIPTION

The study basins are located upstream of Dillon Reservoir within the Blue River

Basin, whic~ covers all of Summit County. The Blue River Basin lies on the west

side 'of the Continental Divide and is tributary to the Colorado River at

Kremml ing. The basin has a drainage area of 514 square miles and generally

drains in a north to northwest direction. The basin width ranges from 21 miles

at lake Dillon to 9 miles at Green Mountain Reservoir. The topography is

1
