The
new Flood Insurance Study contains detailed floodplain information for the Roaring Fork River
within the Town of Basalt. Certainly past development within the 100-year floodplain has altered
the Roaring Fork River Watershed significantly $ince 1987, but the town believes that the
recently completed detailed Flood Insurance Study contains floodplain information that is more
accurate than the approximate floodplain informl1tion for the Roaring Fork River that is contained
in the Flood Insurance Study from 1987.

We would like for CWCB staff to review the Floodplain Information Report: Roaring Fork River
in the Basalt Area for designation and approval at the CWCB' s regular meeting scheduled for the
week of July 24, 2000. We would also like for CWCB staff to compare the information in the
Flood Insurance Study 1987 and the Floodplain Information Report to confirm whether there
truly is an inconsistency in floodplain information. We request that the approximate floodplain
information contained in the Flood Insurance Study not be designated and that the amended
floodplain information be the only information for the Roaring Fork River to be designated by the
Colorado Water Conservation Board.

Please call David Konchan at (lJ70) lJ27-472~ ifyo\l h.ve qllestions about our request for
designation and approval.

Srs:~ Vlc>Y\J~~~

David Konchan ~ _~
Project Manager ()

Cc Brian Hyde
Tom Baker

M:\SphilpIHYDE.doc

Established in 1901
