<br />4. The areas subject to flooding should be <br /> <br /> <br />delineated based on fan flood history. local <br /> <br /> <br />topography. and other characteristics. <br /> <br />5. Quantitative predictions of depths and <br />velocities should be computed from empirical <br />equations such a those presented in Part II. <br />Section 3. The application of such equations <br />will depend on the fan conditions identified in <br />step 2 and the potential hazards identified in <br />step 3. <br /> <br /> <br />It is clear that a detailed study of the fan and watershed. <br />including geologic and geomorphic analysis. is required to <br />adequately define flooding behavior and hazards. <br /> <br />This procedure will require considerably more effort than <br />the applic~tion of the current fIA methodology. However. <br />the resulting flood delineation is. likely to be <br />substantially more accurate and representative of actual f~n <br />flooding. <br /> <br />56 <br />
