j

.

.

Ms. Sheila Beissel
June 6. 1990
Page three

Stream Reaches_To Be Delineated

A significant number of stream reaches for which
approximate information is, shOl.m on l:l1e Flood Insurance Rate
Map (FIRM) are proposed for elimination from that map. We
believe there are a few stream reaches for which such
elimination should be reconsidered,

As we said earlier. it appears that flow information for
Basin C (approximately 300 acres) could be generated. We
recognize there is some steep terrain. some golf course area.
and some open space. For that reason we could accept
elimination of C and Cl. but we think that first a little more
consideration to keeping them on the map should be give.

At the downstream end of Basin F a flow of 480 c.f.s. 100as
calculated. The area is 237 acres. slightly below your cutoff
area of 250 acres. At the downstream end of Basin H a flow of
460 c.f.s. was calculated. Thl! area is 230 acres. again close
to the cutoff of 250 acres. Both stI:eams cross Stone Quarry
Road near the cemetery. From there they flow between areas to
be developed. The land between the two development areas
appears to be open space. Even with the possibility of the
drainageway being open space. we would suggest consideration be
given to keeping floodplain information on the map for these
two drainages from Stone Quarry Road to the Colorado River.

The final basin we want to discuss briefly is Basin II.
From your report we surmise that the figure on Table 3 for
drainage area should be 230 acres. not 3.230 acres. 230 acres
would agree with the information on Table I and Drawing 1. If
that is correct. then at the downstre,3.m end of the Jacks Pocket
Village subdivision the drainage area is about 200 acres. In
that _case we would agree that Basin II constitutes a local
drainage problem. not a flOOdplain. and it does not need to
-remain on the FIRM. If the are,a is much larger. then the
question needs to be reconsidered.

1

In summary. we feel a little thought should be given to
keeping delineations on the FIF;M for Basin C. Cl and II. We
feel that delineations should remain on the maps for Basins F
and H downstream of Stone 'Quarry" Road..
