I.
.
.
I
I
I
I
, I
I
II
.
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

tion pond just east of the tracks, minor channel improvements
through the future park area extending to Windermere Street,
right-of-way acquisition and channelization from Windermere
to Datura Street, flood plain zoning to Powers Park and
additional sewer capacity along the South tributary.

The conduit and channel improvements from Prince to the
South Platte and along the City of Littleton property res-
pectively would be designed for the same criteria as pro-
posed in Alternative No.1. However, the detention pond
proposed for the area upstream of the AT&SF railroad tracks
would be designed to effectively detain the lOa-year storm
runoff hydro graph to minimize the size of facilities
required downstream. With this hydrograph routing effect,
the conduit required at Prince Street would be approximately
the same size as that required in Alternate No.1, however,
in combination with the detention reservoir, it would pro-
vide protection for the laO-year storm flow.

Upstream of the proposed park area, channel modifications
were recommended to minimize erosion in the channel and
sediment deposition in the pond. As in the other alterna-
tives, consideration was given to provide a relief overflow
to the City Ditch flume in the potential park area to mini-
mize flooding along the ditch. These improvements would be
made in conjunction with park development and thus would fit
in with the proposed park plan.

From Windermere to Datura Street, Alternate No.2 proposed
to acquire approximately 8 residences and channelize the
stream through the area with a bridge at Windermere Street.
This immediate acquisition would have the immediate effect
of eliminating high property damage potential which exists
through this area. The economic benefits of this proposed
alternate did not reflect the sociological aspects of
neighborhood alteration and family relocation.

Above Datura Street, flood plain zoning was again proposed
as a means of minimizing future potential flood damage.
These measures would complement the storm sewers recently
installed in Berry Circle which greatly reduces the regular
or yearly damage, until now characteristic of this reach of
the channel. In conjunction with the flood plain zoning,
this alternate also recommended the action of the City to
qualify residents along this reach for flood insurance
under the regular flood insurance program.

The total cost for this alternate along the main stream,
was estimated to be approximately $783,000. The potential
benefits range from $930,000 immediately to $1,780,000
through the period in which the anticipated benefits of
flood plain management would be recognized. The total cost
for the proposed improvements for this alternate on the
main stream was estimated to be $783,000.

VI-3
