Any future re-studies of the Clear Creek County hydrology
should certainly make use of the gage data.

III. HYDROLOGIC ANALYSIS

Methodolo!!V For CWCB Analvsis
Flood discharge-frequency relationships for Clear Creek, South Clear Creek, West Fork, Fall
River, and Chicago Creek were based on regional regression equations for Colorado. The
regression equations are published in the USGS Water-Resources Investigations Report
"Analysis of the Magnitude and Frequency of Floods in Colorado" dated 1996 and prepared by
J .E, Vaill in cooperation with the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Bureau of
Land Management.

.

The regional regression equations are based on flood frequency analyses of streamflow data from
USGS gaging stations located within Colorado and adjacent states. The regional regression
equations relate flood magnitude (the dependent variable) to drainage basin and climatic
characteristics (the independent "explanatory" variables). Colorado was divided into five distinct

4
