Fandis-Weld Association: deep, nearly level and gently <br /> <br /> <br />sloping, loamy soils that have a clayey layer in the subsoil; formed <br /> <br /> <br />mainly in silty, wind-deposited material; on foothills. <br /> <br /> <br />This soil association occurs mainly in upland areas along the <br /> <br /> <br />western edge of the Basin from South Clarkson Street to South lJJliver" <br /> <br /> <br />slty Boulevard. These soils take in water at a moderate rate witb a <br /> <br /> <br />moderate to high avai.1ah.1e \vater ho.1ding capacity. They generally <br /> <br /> <br />have a high shrink-swel1ing potential. This soi 1 association is com- <br /> <br /> <br />posed mainly of Fondis Soils (silty loam to silty cluy loam 8" sllrf"acc <br /> <br /> <br />layer, clay and silty clay loam su])soi.1 to about 32", underl a in by <br /> <br /> <br />loam, silt loam, and clay loam containing lime); Weld Soi Is ("ilt <br /> <br /> <br />loam 5" surface layer, clay loam, si.1ty cldY and silty c10Y loam sub.. <br /> <br /> <br />soil to ahout 21" with limy deposit:s at about .14" and other minor soi.1s. <br /> <br /> <br />Since a general soil map showing soil associ 3tions was not avai]- <br /> <br /> <br />ab.1e for the Big Dry Creek Basin within Douglas County, the soils had <br /> <br /> <br />to he evaluated b3sed on soils groupings by phases. Most of the upper <br /> <br /> <br />reaches of the drainage basin arc composed of soils phnses with the <br /> <br /> <br />following general properties as shown in the fo.11owing Tahle II-I, <br /> <br />-/0. <br />
