Federal Emergency Management Agency
Washington, D.C. 204-72

CERTIFIED MAIL
RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED

IN REPLY REFER TO:
Case No.: 99-08-218P

The Honorable Steve Ward
Chairperson, Arapahoe County
Board of Commissioners
5334 South Prince Street
Littleton, CO 80166

Community: Arapahoe County, Colorado
Community No.: 080011
Panels Affected: 08OO5C0485 J
Effective Date of OCT 12 1999
This Revision:

102-I-A-C

Dear Mr. Ward:

This responds to a request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revise the effective
Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FlS) report for Arapahoe County, Colorado
and Incorporated Areas (the effective FIRM and FIS report for your community), in accordance with
Part 65 of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFlP) regulations. In a letter dated March 29, 1999,
Mr. Vince C. Geronimo, Project Engineer, P.R. Fletcher & Associates, Inc., requested that FEMA revise
the FIRM and FIS report to show the effects of more detailed topographic information, grading along the
west bank of Cherry Creek at the Southcreek Development, and channelization of Happy Canyon Creek
from the confluence with Cherry Creek to just downstream of Jordan Road. This request follows up on
a Conditional Letter of Map Revision issued on November 25,1997.

All data required to complete our review of this request were submitted with letters from Mr. Geronimo.

We have completed our review of the submitted data and the flood data shown on the effective FIRM and
FIS report. We have revised the FIRM and FIS report to modify the elevations and floodplain and
floodway boundary delineations of the flood having a I-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in
any given year (base flood) along Cherry Creek from approximately 2,100 feet downstream to
approximately 7,500 feet upstream of the confluence with Happy Canyon Creek and along Happy Canyon
Creek from the confluence with Cherry Creek to approximately 300 feet upstream of Jordan Road. As a
result of the modifications, the base flood elevations (BFEs) and the widths of the Special Flood Hazard
Areas (SFHAs), the areas that would be inundated by the base flood, for the revised reach of Cherry Creek
and the width of the regulatory floodway along Cherry Creek increased in some areas and decreased in
other areas. The BFEs and SFHA width for the revised reach of Happy Canyon Creek decreased. The
increases in BFEs for Cherry Creek were a result of the incorporation of more detailed topographic
information. The modifications are shown on the enclosed annotated copies of FIRM
Panel(s) 08OO5C0485 J; Proftle Panel(s) 33P, 34P, 35P, 83P, and 84P; and affected portions of the
Floodway Data Table. This Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) hereby revises the above-referenced panel(s)
of the effective FIRM and the affected portions of the FIS report, both dated August 16, 1995.

Because this revision request also affects the unincorporated areas of Douglas County, a separate LOMR
for that community was issued on the same date as this LOMR.

--
