DESCRIPrION OF THE BUREAU OF OUTDOOR RECREATION 1 S RECOMMENDATION

a. General. The Bureau of Outdoor Recreation and the Colorado
Game, Fish, and. Parks Department have recommended that acquisition
and development of additionaJ. lands and Soda Lakes facilities be
included in the Mou~t Careon project recommendations. The Bureau
of Outdoor Recreation asserts that, unless these additional lands
are acquired ar..d developed, the true recreation potential of the area
will be Irrevocably lost.

b. Land ~'eo.uircffients. Based upon current land acquisition
policies, the recommer..ded plan required the purchase of 1,479 acres
of land for prcject con3truction. Pu::,chase of an additional 125 acres
for project-associated yecreation development was recommended. The
proposal of the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation for optimum recreation
enhan~ement of the area would involve the acquisition of 758 acres
of land for recreation purposes, or 633 acres more than contemplated
in the recorr~ended plan. The limits of the maximum pool, the purchase
lines for the recommended plan, and the additional area proposed by
the Bureau of Cutdoor Recreation are illustrated on Plate 1 of this
supplement.

o

3
