of the channel banks. Generally speaking) the residents 118ve made no effort
to stabilize the cha-:lnel banks against further erosion.

Rr:ACH 1+

The /+3" x 27" CS:? arch located under Orchard StreE:t ';,-Jas or:Lgina.lly
installed with catch basins on each side of the street and an outfall pipe
to the East. The ca-?acities of the catC!l basin inlets have been greatly
reduced_ in the past due to plugging Vlith floating debt" is. During the Spring
of 1975 the County }!,intenance Department opened the ,,'est catch basIn and
extended a pipe to t.:le west to reduce the over lot flooding ~.,hich occ.urs
focequently. The chamel above Orchard Street has be.en, fenced and tH,es
and shrubbery plante,]. Some residents use this area to store equipment and
fire wood, plant gardens) and storing other floatable items. By planting
vegetation, installi-lg fences, and storing various materials, the channel
erosion has been eliminated, but now the runoff ponds and isn t t rE~leased.
This causes the water depth_ to increase and houses are. then damagE~d.

REACH 5

The 43" x 27" CS:? arch was originally installed across Pike St:r(~et and
over the years it ha3 been extended in both directions so that the lot OHners
could benefit and get more use out of their properties.

Most of the storms \.,hich occur overflo\.;r Pike Street and are to some
extent controlled to minimize damage.

One outstanding "liolation of the drainage.-\".-ay is above Orchard Street.
Here the owner has b'lilt duplexes aclj acent: to the channel, and solid \vood
fences have been constructed uhich during high flm.vs act as dams to impede
the flow of water. This ponding of runoff can potentially damage adjacent
houses. The channel above the wood fence remains umnaintained for 1:he Glast
part. There are pot, ential problems in areas where dirt has been hauled in
or trash has been dumped upon the vacant areas.

REACH 6

The 36" CSP and .L8" CSP under Quaker Street handle the runoff from
minor storms. PluggLng of these pipes is a common occurrence. The area
above the 36" pipe has not been improved along the channel and is currently
being considered as " future park site.

Since the removal of the railroad spur line, this area has beE~n used as
a dump and fill dirt deposit area. The historical channel bed has been
violated and isn I t r'~adily visible in some areas.

7
