Retrofitting usually involves the <br />application of proper engineering design, <br />construction and alterations are usually <br />made to the skeletal structure of the <br />building and are on a much larger scale. <br /> <br />FLOOD INSURANCE <br /> <br />The National Flood Insurance Program <br />(NFIP) was developed in the late 1960s by <br />the U.S. Government to discourage <br />floodplain use and to encourage <br />communities to take part in proper land use <br />programs. The NFIP offers money saving <br />incentives to those who purchase flood <br />insurance and take part in mitigation of <br />their properties. <br /> <br />One local insurance agent in Lyons <br />reported only one inquiry about insurance <br />following the Aug. 10, flood.
