GRADING NOTES

I. All fill slopes shall be compacted to not less thAn 90 percent
of the mAximum density (modified).

2, Sufficent tests of soil properties. including soil types and shear
strengths shall be made during grading operations to verify com-
pliance with design criteria. The results of such testing shall be
reported in the final as-graded report. or upon request of the
city. A minimum number of field density tests are made flS
follows:

A. One test for each two-foot vertical lift.
B. One test for each 2000 cubic yards of material placed,
C. A sufficient number of finish slope tests to verify compact-
ion of the slope surface.

3.

No fill shall be placed until stripping and removal of unsuitable
soils is accepted by the project engineer or engineering geologist.

The undersigned project engineer hereby states that these plans were
prepared by him or under his supervision.

Approved protective mellsures And temporary drainage provisions
shall be provided to protect adjoining properties from deposition
of material or diverted flows both during and after all phases of
contruction,

4.

5.

6. All offsite improvements shall be completed to the satisfaction
of the project engineer.

7, All cuts shall be observed by the project engineer during grading so
that any adverse conditions can be recognized and corrected.

8. Any modifications of. or changes in. approved grading plans must
be approved by the city,

9, All graded sites must have drainage swales. berms. and other
drainage devices approved at the rough grading stag".

10, Grading operations must b.. conducted under the observation of
the Pl'oject engineer and/or the soils engineer.

II. Excavations for stability keys and removal of unsuitable soils
must be observed and accepted in writing by the soils engineer
or engineering geologist prior to placing fill.

12. The geotechnical engineering study prepared by Lambert and Assoc-
ciates and dated December 2. 1994. shall become a part of this
grading plan and all recommendations contained therein shall be
strictly adhered to.

13. Contractor shall notify the project engineer's office at (970) 7G8-
6153 forty-eight (48) hours in advance of intention to begin grad-
ing.

14. The foundation area of the embankment should be cleared of all
vegetable. organic or deleterious material prior to placement of the
embankment fill. The clearing operations should extend beyond the
proposed embankment a distance sufficient to insure that the em-
bankment fill is not placed on any deleterious meterials or at least
five (5) feet. whichever is greater.

15. The soil material exposed in the clearing operations should be moisture
conditioned. mixed and proof-rolled prior to the placement of the
embankment fill. Any loose. low density or pumping areas exposed
during the proof-rolling opera! ions should be removed and replaced
with compacted embankment fill.

16. The soil moisture content for compacting the embankment material
should r8nge from about 2 percent dry of optimum to about two (2)
percent wet of optimum moisture content as defined by ASTM 0698.
Standard Proctor. The proposed embankment material should contain
no rocks larger than about (6) inches. The material should be placed
in the thin lifts of about (6) to eight (8) inches maximum thickness.
moisture conditioned to the proper moisture content and compacted
to at least 95 percent of the maximum dry density as defined by ASTM
0698. Standard Proctor.

17. If it is desired to begin construction on the embankment during
late fall, winter or early spring, it should be noted that freezing
of the last lift of the previous day's work is likely. If this is the
case, it will be necessary to protect that area of the on-going
work from freezing or removing the frozen material prior to the
onset of the next day's work. It may be helpful to stockpile dry mat-
erial and place a loose lift of this dry material to protect the placed
and compacted fill material from frost. The loose protective material
may be removed the next morning and returned to the stockpile
for future use. If the protective material should he moistened. by
either rain or snow. it should be stored separately from the dry
Rtockpile material.

date 3-10-1995
job number 94074/0RTITL
designed by
drawn by KLD
checked by

revision

~

~-

\
\/
\

3890

SHEET INDEX
SHEET 1 COVER SHEET
SHEET 2 PROPOSED RIVER REDEVEL8PMENT DRAWING
SHEET 3 PROPOSED RIVER REDEVELOPMENT DRAWING
SHEET 4 P,ROPOSED RIVER REDEVEL::>PMENT DRAWING
SHEET 5 PROPOSED RIVER REDEVEL::>PMENT DRAWING
SHEET 6 PROPOSED RIVER PROFILE
SHEET 7 EXISTING, PRE-PROJECT DRAWING
SHEET 8 EXISTING, PRE-PROJECT DRAWING
SHEET 9 EXISTING, PRE-PROJECT DRAWING
SHEET 10 EXISTING, PRE-PROJECT DRAWING
SHEET 1 1 EXISTING, PRE-PROJECT PROFILE
SHEET 12 TYPICAL SECTIONS AND DET A~LS
SHEET 13 TYPICAL SECTIONS AND DET A LS

SHEET 2 & 7

.
