second. The flood insurance report flood profiles indicate that out
of channel flooding occurs in all streams on a regularly basis. The
paleohydrologic investigations and analyses of streamflow data do not
support the frequent occurrence of these high discharges. Similarly,
these invEstigations do not support the occurrence of less frequent
flood discharges (100- and 500-year). Detailed onsite paleohydrologic
investigations in these tributaries and in other nearby representative
basins and the development of regional flood-frequency relations
(based on a rainfall flood contributing area below 7,500 to 8,000
feet) could improve the flood hydrology in these bas~ns.
The onsite investigations also identified the occurrence of a
very large debris flow in Sutherland Creek. Debris flows recur when
sufficient weathered material develops on steep SlOp~8. There is a
need to determine the potential for other debris flows since the noted
debris flow occurred in area that is now a developed.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like
Jarrett to measure
investigations.

to ackawledge the time and assistance from Carolyn
channel dimensions during the paleohydrologic

REFERENCES
Follansbee, Robert, and Sawyer.
