<br />3 Flood Insurance Zones <br /> <br />After the detennination of reaches and their respective Flood Hazard <br />Factors, the entire incorporated area of the City of Canon City was <br />divided into zones, each having a specific flood potential or hazard. <br />Each zone was assigned one of the following flood insurance zone <br />designations: <br /> <br />Zones AI, A2, A3, <br />A6, and A7: <br /> <br />Special Flood Hazard Areas inundated <br />by the 100-year flood, detenmined by <br />detailed methods; base flood eleva- <br />tions shown, and zones subdivided <br />according to Flood Hazard Factors. <br /> <br />Zone B: <br /> <br />Areas between the Special Flood <br />Hazard Areas and the 1 imits of the <br />500-year flood, including areas of <br />the 500-year flood plain that are <br />protected from the 100-year flood by <br />dike, levee, or other water control <br />structure; al so areas subject to <br />certain types of 100-year shallow <br />flooding where depthS are less than <br />1.0 foot; and areas subject to <br />100-year fl oodi ng from sourr:es wi th <br />drainage areas less than 1 square <br />mile. Zone B is not subdivided. <br /> <br />Zone C: <br /> <br />Areas of minimal flooding. <br /> <br />The flood elevation differences, Flood Hazard Factors, floorl <br />insurance zones, and base flood elevations for each floorling source <br />studied in detail in the community are sumarized in Table 4. <br /> <br />5.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description <br /> <br />The Flood Insurance Rate Map for the City of Canon City is, for <br />insurance purposes, the principal result of these Flood Insurance <br />Study. This map (published separately) contains the official deline- <br />ation of flood insurance zones and base flood elevations lines. Base <br />flood elevation lines show the locations of the expected whole-foot <br />water-surface elevations of the base (IOO-year) flood. This map is <br />developed in accordance with the latest flood insurance map prepara- <br />tion guidelines published by FEMA. <br /> <br />6.0 OTHER STUDIES <br /> <br />A Flood Plain Infonnation Report for the Arkansas River at Florence, <br />Colorado, by the U.S. Anmy Corps of Engineers was done in April 1978, <br />(Reference 6). The hydrology computed therein is in agreement with <br />the hydrologic analysis for the Arkansas River contained in this Flood <br />Insurance Study. <br /> <br />14 <br />
