vital parts of their water supp:y systems, Dolores shou~d

make every attempt to preclude t~at Dossibili:~'.

The recommended alternative would include leve0
protection along the Dolores Ri\'er's north bank from Station
28+80 (Fourth Street Bridge) to Station 78+40 (Southeast
20rner of Water Treatment Facilit~' fence). Then 400 feet o~
.levee running north from the riverbank to Station 82~40 at
:iighway 145 would complete the p~oject. The total length of
levee would be about 1 mile.

It is recommended that nc levee be constructed by the
town on the south side of the river. Such a project would
not be cost effective. Instead i~dividual actio~, either
~lood insurance, or landscaping to provide a berm, or both,
by the property owners is recommended.

The estimated north side Drcject cost would be about
~;480,OOO. The result of the pro~:!=ct., if implemeJYteo as
I'ecommended, would be the protection of approximate:y 175
buildings in and around the town of Dolores and the
protection of the Dolores Water Treatment Facility. The
project would take advaI1tage of the work done by the Bureau
c~ Reclamation for the McPhee Rese=voir project, and it
w0l..11d tie in to that wo"{k.

5.2.

Implementation of ~he Levee P~o4ect

Given the estima~eo cost of S480,000, :.he ~~'ol,\1n 0::
Dolores will need to ~ry to combine local =eSOu~ces with
s-:a~e, ano possibly feae:-a1 r-eSOUT"ces.
