The <br />middle of the United States is drained by a combination of the <br />Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Arkansas Rivers. The north <br />central drainage through the Great Lakes empties into the Atlantic Ocean by <br />way of the St. Lawrence River. The northwest is largely drained by the <br />Snake and Columbia River systems. The Colorado and Rio Grande Rivers carry <br />water from the central Rocky Mountains throughout tll1e southwest and the <br />Columbia River drains much of the northwest. Many ,other shorter or smaller <br />streams drain the southeast and also the regions 1lle12tioned above. <br />
