<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br />TOWN OF EATON AND WELD COUNTY, COLORADO <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study revises and updates a previous Flood <br />Insurance Study/Flood Insurance Rate Map for the unincorporated <br />areas of Weld County and the incorporated areas of the Town of <br />Eaton, Weld County, Colorado. This information will be used by <br />Weld County and the Town of Eaton to update existing floodplain <br />regulations as part of the Regular Phase of the National Flood <br />Insurance Program (NFIP). The information will also be used by <br />local and regional planners to further promote sound land use and <br />floodplain development. <br /> <br />'<: <br /> <br />In some states or communities, floodplain management criteria or <br />regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive <br />than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more <br />restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other <br />jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />The identification of initial areas requlring detailed study was <br />done at a meeting attended by personnel from the study contractor, <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) , and the Weld County <br />Planning Department on April 22, 1976. <br /> <br />The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), Omaha District, provided <br />floodplain data on the Cache La Poudre River and the South Platte <br />River for use in preparing this Flood Insurance Study. <br /> <br />The results of the original study were reviewed at final <br />coordination meetings held on December 20, 1978, for Weld County <br />and on January 8, 1979, for the Town of Eaton. Attending the <br />meetings were representatives of FEMA, the study contractor, Weld <br />County, and the Town of Eaton. No problems were raised at these <br />meetings. <br /> <br />~' <br /> <br />Further flood hazards exist along Coal Creek south of the Union <br />Pacific Railroad within the Town of Erie and Weld County. On <br />October 6, 1987, a meeting was held between representatives of <br />FEMA, the Town of Erie, and the U. S. Department of the Interior, <br />8ureau of Reclamation to discuss the detailed analysis of these <br />flood hazards. The town provided maps, which were used in the <br />analysis. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />In addition, the U.S. Soil Conservation Service (SCS), U.S. <br />Geological Survey (USGS), COE, and Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board (CWCB) were contacted for pertinent information regarding <br />flood hazards wi thin the Town of Erie and Weld County. The SCS <br />
