This study covers flood hazard area delineation for Massey Draw, the North Tri-

butary of Massey Draw, SJCD (South) - Basin 6200 and two of its tributaries.

The basins are shown on Plate I. The study was authorized by an agreement be-

tween the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD), Jefferson County,

Arapahoe County, and Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers, Inc. (LRCWE) dated

March 16, 1977. The same contract authorizes a major drainageway planning study

for the drainageways which is being printed under separate cover. Plate II

shows the limits of study for the flood hazard area delineation and the major

drainageway planning studies.

Mapping of the drainageways was accompliahed under separate contract between the

UDFCD and Delta Aerial Surveys. The 100-year flood plain for the lower portion

of the SJCD (South) Basin including its North Tributary was defined in a drain-

age master plan prepared by CH2M-Hill, Inc. in July 1976. The present study

supersedes the CH2M-Hill, Inc. study for the lower reaches of SJCD (South) -

Basin 6200.

Purposes and Scope

The purpose of this study is to define the 100-year flood hazard areas for the

drainageways, considering future development within the basins and existing

channel conditions. The report was prepared for the guidance of local officials

in planning the use and regulation of the flood plain.

The scope of work for the study includes the following:

1. Collection of existing data.

2.

A hydrologic study to define the flows for the 2, 5. 10, 50, and 100-

year floods for the future basin development condition, and the 100-

year flood for the existing basin development condition.

A hydraulic analysis to define the flood plains and flood profiles

for the various frequencies and development conditions and to iden-

tify existing drainage problems and hazards.
