<br />,."- <br /> <br />i <br />t <br />~ <br />~ <br />t <br />< <br /> <br />CODE COMPATIBILITY PROJECT <br /> <br />John Gambel. <br />Phil.ip schneider <br /> <br />Abstract <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />, <br />l <br />, <br /> <br />The Code Compatibility Project is part of a mul.ti-year effort to <br />incorporate the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) flood <br />damage resistant design standards into the nation's model. buil.ding <br />codes. The project evaluated the compatibility of flood loss <br />reduction standards of the National flood Insurance Program (NFIP) <br />with the construction standards that now appear in the nation's <br />model building codes. These model codes are adopted in some form <br />by almost all states and local communities. All three of the model <br />building code groups have accepted and published extensive section <br />of the NFIP floodplain management regulation.s that pertain to <br />publ.ishing of a three-volume report. The three parts of the report <br />are titled Code compatibility Report, Code compatibility study <br />Appendix A and B, and Code compatibil.ity Study .Appendix C,D,E, and I <br />F. The report includes recommendations for changes to both the <br />technical documents and building standards. ~~his is a necessary <br />precursor to a national consensus code process for flood damaged <br />project were the Building Officials and Code Administrators <br />International (BOCA), the southern Building Code Congress <br />International (SBCCI), the International Conference of Building <br />Officials (ICBO), the National Fire Protection Associations (NFPA), <br />and the National Conference on states and Building Code standards <br />(NCSBCS). <br /> <br />;j <br />~ <br />; <br />~. <br />! <br />f.:- <br /> <br />i: <br />~ <br />t <br />f" <br /> <br />i <br />I <br />~..'....
