The highest recorded peak flow on the
Crystal River above its confluence with Avalanche Creek is 3,980 cfs, which occurred in 1957.
No damage estimates are presented in the PIS for either of these events.

Previous Studies
The September 30, 1988 PIS is a revision of the original Pitkin County PIS which was published
on June 4, 1987 and was previously designated by the CWCB. The September 1988 revision
was carried out to incorporate approximate floodplain mapping information for Brush Creek
within the Town of Snowmass Village. This Hydrology Addendum provides hydrology
information not only for Brush Creek but for all approximately mapped streams in the 1988 PIS.

Community Resuonse to the CWCB Desilmation and Auuroval Process
Letters from the CWCB were transmitted to Pitkin County and the incorporated areas of
Snowmass Village and Aspen providing notification of the Board's proposed action for
designation and approval of the revised Pitkin County and Incorporated Areas PIS. The County
was receptive to the Board's proposed designation action and provided verbal approval for the
designation in a phone conversation on March 23, 2001. Both the Town of Snowmass Village
and the City of Aspen were also contacted by phone and were receptive to the Board's proposed
designation.

3
