..."

For Souths ide Dike: this dike has been armored for
erosion protection with stone rip-rap by the Division of
wildlife and is compatible with the proposed
plan-of-improvement.

Levee Repair

From station 100+00 to station 175+00 the existing left
bank levee system needs repairs and up-grading to a higher
level of flood control protection. The proposed bridge
design for the new Highway No, 55 bridges are for the
50-year flood discharges. The existing levee system will
fail at a flood event greater than the 10-year flood.

Tieback Levee

,

A 1350 foot tieback levee needs to be constructed at the
upstream end of the existing left bank levee system to
contain flood flow within the existing levee system (See
Plates 4 and 5 and Exhibit 3). The tieback levee will
start at station 172+00 and traverse northerly to the
Union Pacific Railroad. The UPRR embankment at this
location is above the 100-year flood elevation, The levee
will vary in height from 5-7 feet and will be located on
the centerline of an existing farm service road, During
the 1965 and 1973 floods overtopped the left high bank and
inundated many acres of irrigated agricultural lands and
the Town of Crook.

PROJECT COSTS

Project costs were estimated for channel stabilization
measures, channel alignments, mitigation of overbank flooding
conditions, and ex~sting flood control structure repairs. Unit
costs were developed and used for determining costs of project
elements.

'-

Unit costs for the major components of the
plan-of-improvement are shown in Table 2. Fill and clay
materials for the plan are assumed to be available from the
surrounding area. Riprap costs include the transportation cost
of hauling from a front range or regional quarry.

-9-
