plain areas those areas inundated by the lOa-year flood* as
defined by the water surface elevations and profiles. Land
uses in designated flood plain areas may then be regulated by
the local government.

Purpose and Scope

This report was prepared to guide local officials in the
planning~ use and regulation of the flood plain as designated,
so that flood hazards and future flood damages are minimized.
The report inclues information on historical floods and the
nature and extent of probable future floods.

The report data includes Flooded Areas maps delineating the
lOa-year flood boundary and floodway, flood profiles and flood
plain cross-sections showing the high water elevations for the
10-, 50-, 100- and 500-year floods at selected reference points.
This information is contained in Volume II of this report which
is pr~nted separately.

Acknowledgements

The assistance and cooperation of various governmental
agencies, organizations and individuals permitted the expeditious
completion of this report. Those organizations are listed
on the following page and their assistance is gratefully appreciated
and acknowledged.

"The terms "Intermediate Regional Flood", "lOa-year flood", and
"one percent flood" can be used interch<Ulgeably as they ar", dll
defined by the same flood event.

-2-

Federal Insurance Administration
Colorado Water Conservation Board
Larimer County Planning Department
U. Two-foot
and ten-foot contour interval maps were prepared photogrammetric-
31ly from aerial photos taken September 5, 1976.

The maps were compiled at a scale of 1" = 100' and rl1!duced
to a scale of 1" = 200' for the flOOd plain delineation. The
maps are specified to meet or exceed National Map Accuracy
St(lndards.

The cross-sections used in the hydraulic analyses were
obtained from the aerial topography utili~ing photogrammetric
methods.
