and cross section wi 11 be defined from the 1 inch equals
100 foot - 2 foot contour interval maps currently avail able
from the Town of Vail from a previous contract. Supplemental
sections and the dimensions of the bridge openings will be
obtained by field surveys. It is anticipated approximately

seventyfive additional sections will be necessary to obtain

the accurate sections required for the computer modeling.
The computer modeling will be accomplished by either
the Corps of Engineers HEC-2 program or an internally developed

q

backwater program that is based upon the same energy
continuity theorem but has somewhat more flexibility with

,

sub-critical flow. The selection of the more suitable
1__",,-

program for this particular stream will be defined after

-?

the geometry of the model is fully established and the

applicability of the two programs can be fully compared.
The results of the channel routing will be presented on
,.~ reproducible drawings complete with identification of problem
reahces and/or bri dges. FLOOD DAMAGES AND IMPROVEMENT COSTS

The problem areas, where infringement into the flood

plain or where excessive velocities may create hazardous

conditions for major floods, will be evaluated as to possible

solutions and the costs of these solutions.
