<br />If records of 25 to 100 years are available. a weighted skew should be <br />calculated in which the station skew is given a weight of (N-25)f75 in <br />which N is the length of record and the generalized skew is given a <br />weight of 1.0 minus (N-25)f75. The equation is based on the assumption <br />that a generalized skew coefficient determined by the procedures described <br />would have an accuracy comparable to that computed from about 60 annual <br />peaks (10). <br />In the absence of detailed studies the generalized skew G can be <br />read from Plate I found in the flyleaf pocket of this guide. This map <br />of generalized skew was developed for those users who prefer not to <br />develop their own generalized skew. It is expected that Plate I will be <br />revised as more data become available and more extensive studies are <br />completed. <br />The recommended procedures for developing generalized skew coef- <br />ficients are described in the following paragraphs and outlined in <br />Figure 1 for those preferring not to use Plate I. <br /> <br />11 <br />
