Nebraska 68102-4978 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Buse: <br /> <br />The City of Sterling Colorado is enthusiastic about the <br />opportunities which our Section 22 study project offers to <br />their community. The City desires t,~ develop flood mitigation <br />measures for the South Platte River floodplain for a study <br />reach as shown on the enclosed map. <br /> <br />The Section 22 planning t~sks for the Sterling. Colorado <br />Riverfront Development Plan will include a number of hydraulic <br />analyses on the South Platte aiver in the vicinity of Sterling. <br />Colorado. We recommend that the Corps use th,~ topograpl~ic. <br />hydrologic. and hydraulic dat~ as prE!Sent in the corps of <br />Engineers. Flood Plain Inform8tion Report. dated September. <br />1978. Using the HEC-2 model. which "'Ias developed for the flood <br />hazard investigation. we solicit the following planning <br />assistance. <br /> <br />o Floodwav Delineation - Using tile FEMA 1 foot the <br />criteria. a floodway ..ill be determine!d for the study <br />reach. <br /> <br />o Floodwav and Clearinq the ExJr..stinq Channel - Using the <br />natural channel geometry. a lOO-year floodplain limit <br />and floodway limit will be determined with the existing <br />(Natural) channel cleared of vegetation and sand bars. <br /> <br />o Left Bank Levee System - Usirllg the City's proposed <br />levee alignment. the 100-year floodplain elevations and <br />inundation areas will be determined for the study <br />reach. Should it be determined that the City's levee <br />alignment causes a rise in the 100-year water surface <br />elevation greater than one foot. the C1~CB request that <br />the Corps consider the following conditions: <br /> <br />9365E <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT 1 <br />
