Hubbard GuZch creek. <br />Flood Damage Reduction Measures. <br /> <br />ReservoIrs In the Colorado River BasIn above Rifle are operated <br /> <br /> <br />for water conservation purposes and consequently provIde only Inci- <br /> <br />dental flood protection to the Rifle area. This Incidental storage, <br /> <br /> <br />trans-mountaIn diversions, and Irrigation uses have served to reduce <br /> <br /> <br />peak flows for very large floods In the study area. <br /> <br /> <br />In 1972, riprap bank protection was provided along approximately <br />1,000 feet of the river to prevent undermining of the city's sewage <br />treatment lagoon levee. The work was done by the Corps of Engineers <br />under the authority of Section 14 of the 1946 Flood Control Act. <br /> <br />Rifle Gap Reservoir, which is operated for irrigation water supply, <br />provIdes incidental protectIon to the study area from cloudburst runoff <br />orIginating upstream of the dam. <br /> <br />The Corps of Engineers is presently conducting an investigation of <br />the Upper Colorado River Basin; however, no flood control facil ities <br />are presently proposed. <br /> <br />12 <br />
