LAKE MINNEQUA HYDROLOGY & HYDRAULICS

Four major drainage areas drain into Lake Minnequa. Their concentration

points are: 12A, 12C, 12J, 12K. For purposes of this analysis, they are

called basin A, C, J, &, K respectively.

Data supplied by CF&I Eteel Corp. indicate normal WSEL in Lake Minnequa

is 4793.3 to 4798.7 ft. msl. Flow can take place out of the lake to the

I19rtheast by a 21" conduit fed through a grated inlet flowing into city

storm sewers, or through a 24" pipeline to the CF&I plant, or over Lake

Avenue flowing overland through city streets. The two former outlets are

assumed ineffective dilring a flood event due to either trash catching on

inlets or gates, coupled with small capacity and low head. Therefore,

flows for the 10-, 50-, 100-, & 500-year flood events are routed through

the lake and over Lake Avenue.

INFLOW HYDRO GRAPHS

Peak flows at concentration points 12A, 12C, 12J, & 12K are available
as detailed in Pueblo, GO FIS hydrology report of Feb. 1977. They were
computed using U.S.G.S. regression equations (p. 6 of above report). To
perform a routing through the lake, it is' necessary to develop flow
)lydrographs at the concentration points. Inflow hydrographs are developed
by applying TP-40 rainfalls to the unit hydrograph for each area. The
inflow hydrographs are eombined, then routed through Lake Minnequa by

S + ~ routing.
STORAGE INDICATION CURVE

For the routing, stage-storage-outflow relations are developed for Lake
Minnequa. Sole outflow is over Lake Avenue through Sec 1110. Effective
width of flow is 450 ft. due to obstruction posed by buildings. Volume
generated by the 0.25 mi.2 area north of l2J is computed and treated as
starting storage added to cooling water stored in Lake Minnequa to an
'elevation of 4798.7' msl.
