.442.

I

Mr. Crawford: "I would like to read a letter received
from the Izaak j~lton League as follows:

Western Office
702 Mining Exchange Building
Denver 2, Colorado

September 9, 1954

Mr. Ivan C. Crawford, Director
Colorado. Water Conservation Board
212 State Office Building
Denver 2, Colorado

Dear Dean:

I regret ver,,' much that I shall not be able to attend the
open sessions of the l~ter Conservation Board meeting on
September 13, as undoubtedly the discussions on future,
activities in connection with the Upper Colorado Storage
project will be most interesting. I would have liked the
opportunity to express to the Board the point of view which
we think it important the Board consider in planning steps
to be taken in the future.

I

I am attaching three copies of the statement adopted
recently by the Colorado Division of the Izaak Val ton
League' with the concurrence of the national organization.
At some appropriate tiws, you might care to bring the state-
ment to the attention of the Board members. I think it
highly important that the Board take into consideration the
strong likelihood that an Upper Colorado River storage project
will not be authorized in the future if it includes the
Echo Park Dam. At the same time, I feel confident that a
sound project not including Echo Park would receive the staunch
support of the many conservation organizations and groups which
have so bitterly opposed Echo Park Dam. The League statement is
of course', evidence of our, intentions and good faith to that end.

Sincerely, ,
.
