The Subdistrict occupies about 78 square miles, with large
concentrations south of Greeley along US 85 to Brighton, southeast of Greeley extending to
Keenesberg on 1-76, and north of 1- 76 between Wiggins and Fort Morgan. Currently there are 220
members covering 440 wells. Most of the wells were previously covered under the GASP
(Groundwater Appropriators of the South Platte) augmentation plan. The WAS Subdistrict's 2004
Substitute Water Supply Plan was approved by the State Engineer's Office (SEO) on April 29,
2004, and is valid until March 31, 2005. The WAS permanent Augmentation Plan will go to Water
Court in May 2006. In an average year the WAS Subdistrict will need to replace approximately .
10,100 acre feet of depletions. Currently they have 153 acre feet available, so they need to
acquire/develop 9,947 acre feet. The proposed project will provide a total of 8,066 acre feet (4,066
acre feet in water rights acquisitions and 4,000 acre feet in gravel pit storage. They will need to
acquire the remaining 1,881 acre feet, at a later date, and lease that amount in the interim. Costs
to purchase senior water rights are about $3,500 (consumptive) per acre foot around Greeley, and
53,000 per acre foot around Fort Morgan, and the cost to develop lined gravel pit storage is 52500
per acre foot.

, '

" -"",,,0.

WELD

'.

I:

.

(i.
~ ~:

3.-
;

1 ' ~;

"-
~ ,
'B.

-

.

_OFtTOIlOIIGIf<
~~~
"
Jlt()lIl3A:
--
-
~-
~"
, '" .
,
F" I
>
General Project
Location
RGAN
"
--.
I
~
. , -[!J-T
II~...-I
,
I /1-~ 1"-::, l
.
