reconnaissance design and estimate. When these two designs I
and estimates are completed, we will be able to proceed with
the selection of a plan and after the plan is selected, Den-
ver will be able to go ahead with the feasibility designs and
estimates.

The reconnaissance estimate for relocation of High-
way 50 has been completed by our Upper Colorado River Office
and ,the review will soon be completed in the Regional Office
so that it can be forwarded to Denver for approval.

We understand you are bringing to the attention of
the Board our findings on the Pine River Project Extension.
If the Board is waiting for more detail, you may advise them
that the report is now being processed in this office. We
feel it will be available for their study by the next Board
meeting.

MR. MOSES:

"We have a very distinguished dele-
gation here from the U. S. G. S. Do
you care to say anything more than what
Mr. McLaughlin has said Mr. Bell?"

Mr. Francis M. Bell from the U. S. G. S. spoke
about a problem facing both the U. S. G. S. and the Board
and that is the problem of the chemical quality of the waters
in the State. He said we should be prepared at some time
not too long distant to tell what that is going to be as it
will also come up on the South Platte, on the San Juan-Chama
Project and others. Mr. Bell stated that the old attitude
was that as long as it runs, it is water and not much thought
was given to what is in it but that this would have to change
and a program should be attempted relative to water quality.

McClellan will secure the services of
your department, Mr. Bell, when they
get into this."
